Safe guarding a pup from parvo.

Step 1
Disinfect everything with bleach right abroad.

Step 2
Make certain to have all shots for the pup.

Step 3
If your other dog used the back yard do not let him out there the parvo virus tin can alive up to a year out there.

Question: Parvo: How Long Should I Wait to Get Another Dog?

The staffy pup I brought habitation from the shelter had parvo. She soiled twice on my carpeting. I apace cleaned it upward and then we used a trigene disinfectant from the vet and sprayed the carpeting many times. She also vomited once outside and nosotros dug out the soil near 2 feet and bleached the expanse. The pavers have been bleached and all floors have been bleached. My pup had to exist put down, she was so young and sick. How long should we wait until anther pup can come into my habitation?

Many cheers,
Colleen

Unless you want your heart broken once again, I wouldn't accept any chances. Ask you vet!

I had a dog die on Christmas Eve of Parvo. What we did is nosotros sprayed our yard with bleach water. x parts water to ane office bleach spray very well. Clean inside also as possible with bleach where you tin and do the best everywhere else. Then you MUST either get an older dog that is up to date on its shots and I would become a shot record. But if you get a puppy yous must get every single shot they are supposed to go. Which is 4 parvo/distempers.

The puppy/dog will be safe from the parvo 24-48 hrs after the shot. So you must go on the puppy away from whatever identify that the other dog was until and so.

Nosotros have 4 puppies now and we have had them since they were half dozen-seven wks old we did the shot thing and the bleach matter. I besides steam cleaned my carpets. Only they are all doing great. No sign what so e'er and nosotros have had them for over 3 months now. Promise this helps.

It was a phenomenon she pulled through. I am sure your vet could tell y'all...at the time she had it and was cured..nosotros did not know much...we didn't do anything in the way of clean up!?!?

Good luck to you

I am worried that I have made a fault, I adopted a puppy and information technology had parvo and then we put it down, the next dau we bleached the floors and put disinfectant on the furniture and carpets and we have washed all of the clothes and blankets with color safety bleach, then that night we brought home our new puppy and she hasn't had her shots all the same, I wasn't aware that we were supposed to wait weeks or even months after bleaching, was this a horrible move or does my puppy still have a fighting risk?

Editor's Annotation: It would exist all-time if you lot tin get her shots right away. Yous may accept done enough to impale the virus, only fourth dimension will tell merely getting the shots will help.

July 16, 2007 0 found this helpful

It takes longer than 24-48 for a shot to work, information technology is more like 2 weeks. If a pup has already been exposed to parvo, it's non a good idea to give the shot, as the shot brings down the immune system, better to look a couple of weeks, then give the shot, best thing is ask your vet...merely if I knew it was in my house or yard, don't give a shot and let your new pup on the floor or yard, they nigh probable will come up down with parvo. No ane has a difinite time frame of how long it is in the environment, months - years, depends, bleach is all you can do, but you can't wipe out every trace of it in your yard. Best to utilise a shot chosen Neopar at the age of 5 to 6 weeks, continue you pup away from everything, mayhap crated for 2 weeks, go on your hands make clean or wear gloves, yous can take the germ on your hands and bring to your pup. All puppies should have a series of iv shots, with the last ane being effectually sixteen weeks. Shot at 6 weeks is not going to do information technology, 2 sets will not practice it.

It's best to bring in a pup that has had all it'south shots, or keep i quaranteened till it has completed all it'southward shots.
Parvo is bought in on your shoes, picked upwards at Petsmart or other places that permit pets (I honestly believe that should exist OUTLAWED), can be picked upwards at the vets role, cats or other animals can bring it on their feet to your yard. This is actually scary stuff, and people need to know all these things when they remember of getting a pet or a new pet to supercede the 1 they lost to parvo. If you don't know the exercise's and don'ts, do your enquiry then when you feel you have provided a safe environment for a new pup, and fourth dimension has passed, and then get another ane.
My vet told me, one client had a pup to die from parvo, got new pup 2YEARS later, information technology came down with parvo...and so it's there, nosotros don't know how long...and so please think before you lot go do something that will merely make the situation worse.

We got a pup and it was vi-8 weeks old. subsequently a few weeks she became sick and thats when we plant out she had parvo. We thought she was gonna go over information technology, but information technology was only then hard knowing she was gonna die. I prayed to god every night and every time I seen her mess or vomit.

it was the worst thing e'er had to go through watching my puppy die, and in that location was cipher I could practice. Nosotros wanna get another pup but we are not sure what we need to do, earlier bringing the pup home.

Bleach will NOT piece of work outside! Use Shacklee Bones G, it kills the Parvo in the grass, on the ground but won't kill the grass or pollute the ground.

BTW, Parvo stays on and in the footing a year if non treated and it can be tracked home by anyone who goes in your yard.

All-time Answer

Yes, the yard is however a hazard. I'm assuming your dog has been vaccinated for Parvo. If you were concerned at all about fostering a puppy that had been treated for Parvo, I take to wonder at your reasoning for doing that. Or maybe this is just hindsight.

A puppy that has been treated for Parvo tin bear information technology in its body for some fourth dimension after, and the feces is contaminated. Only dogs that are fully vaccinated should exist in your house or chiliad.

I rescued some puppies that had Parvo, from my feel and what a Vet told me, your business firm and yard tin be dangerous for up to 2-iii years after. Business firm tin can exist bleached to help proceed next creature rubber. As for yard- make sure puppy get his/her shots earlier going outside or train them in another part of the 1000 where the other domestic dog with parvo wasn't at.

By the style, a domestic dog that got over Parvo, will non go it once more, and if totally over it, cannot spread Parvo.

June 21, 2013 0 found this helpful

Don't know if I got this to you or not, simply here goes over again.
After rescuing some puppies with Parvo, what I learned and what a Vet told me. That every bit long as your house is well bleached your house will exist fine. Please bleach your house fifty-fifty though the domestic dog didn't mess in your house. Recollect of a cough and how it spreads when cleaning areas where her dog was. Equally for your g, it is Not safe for a puppy with no shots to be in that yard. The yard volition be a danger for two-3 yrs for a canis familiaris with no or but 2 shots. Must accept 3rd shot to be safe. If getting a puppy use some other function of the grand where the other dog that had Parvo didn't use. Once a canis familiaris is over Parvo, they cannot get information technology back, and can't spread it.

After simply 24 hours of sheer happiness, she brutal sick to parvo and nine days later she went to slumber (in the brute infirmary) and never woke up. Now, we've been chosen to rescue another Pit that is six-7 months one-time from a family that has to relocate without her. We have bleached our yard and indoor carpets. Nosotros threw away blankets, toys, collars and leashes. Now what?

The owners want united states to have her on Monday, only nosotros're terrified that she'll contract parvo. Our family is definitely missing a canis familiaris, but I'one thousand thinking we tin can't risk taking her in. Is in that location anyhow to prove her vaccinations? Are vaccinations potent plenty to foreclose parvo? Please aid.
